The past couple of months have been very busy in Calahoo. Minor Hockey is now in full swing, which means a lot of evenings and weekends spent at the Calah0o Arena for many families. I myself have consumed a few famous arena burgers this past while, which I have heard are a very healthy choice. As with hockey, there are a few other Community Projects that are moving forward such as the New Arena Ice Plant and the New Calahoo Community Hall. The Hall Committee has been busy trying to secure funding through community fundraising, and also special Grant Applications which take up a lot of time and energy. They have had great success so far, but as we know getting money from the Local Public and Government are a little more of a challenge in these economic times. When it comes to applying for grants, there are certain recommendations that the government likes to see in an application and one is a Community Membership Program. This shows the review board that the community applying is strong and healthy and that they are all working together for a certain goal. With this in mind, the West Sturgeon Agricultural Society has decided to have our own membership program. What a great way to build an even stronger community. Starting in this Newsletter, we will be selling memberships for the 2009/2010 year. The purchased membership will be per family household. With the purchase of a West Sturgeon Agricultural Society Membership, it will come with some added benefits for the member.
